A. W. Tozer
We love A.W. Tozer. Tozer passed away in the 1960's so we can count on the fact that his words will not be discredited by wrong behavior. So we are happy to quote his writings. When reading what A.W. Tozer teaches, one is both challenged to the core in their very being and are driven to reflect deeper into the scripture.
"Everything is wrong until God sets it right."
"Meer acquaintance with correct doctrine is a poor substitute for Christ; and familiarity with the New Testament eschatology will never take the place of a love-inflamed desire to look on His face."
"The saved man's relation to Christ has been made contractual instead of personal (the work of Christ has been stressed until it has eclipsed the person of Christ...) This results in what He did for me seems to be more important than what He is to me"
Ultimately, if a writer expounds on the truth found in the scripture, the inerrant Word of God (the Holy Bible), written by men, inspired by the Holy Spirit of God) we recommend and love it. Some writers in our post-modern age choose to take a single scripture, removing it from its context as written in the Bible, and they wrap a doctrine around that idea, which can often conflict with the context from which it was taken. This is a vital mistake! The doctrine must be true to the main message found throughout the Bible. We must guard ourselves from being blown about by every wind of doctrine that someone brings. It is the Holy Spirit who teaches us, but if the things taught do not line up with what the over-arching theme of scripture says, it is more than likely in error.
Of course, Jesus is the favorite one that we like to quote, for He is one who never fails; who never lies, in whom there is no darkness at all. Since He was sinless, and in Him there was nothing for which sin could grasp, He is the ultimate example and teacher of Truth. Sometimes it is like stepping out on a limb when you quote other humans, only because if one falls, it is as though everything they taught or said becomes discredited. Mere man can change like shifting shadows but Jesus will never change. JESUS NEVER FAILS!
"I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life. No one comes unto the Father but through me."
"Before Abraham was, I AM."
"...for this reason I was born, and for this I came into the world, to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me."
"As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you obey my commands you will remain in my love, just as I have obeyed my father's commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends. You are my fiends if you do what I command."
